In memory of the concert of the Rainforest Foundation at the Carnegie Hall in New York, on April 30th 1997

For the concert of the Rainforest Foundation at the Carnegie Hall in New York, on April 30th 1997, Sting asked to all the artists to perform a song that could remember the childhood of each artist. The most representative songs for me were “Bandiera Rossa” and “Va’ Pensiero”, that my Uncle Guerra used to sing to me. I didn’t feel like “Bandiera Rossa” was an appropriate song, so I performed “Va’ Pensiero” but with different lyrics (written on purpose by my friend Mino Vergnaghi) and transforming it into a lullaby. I sang it with James Taylor on guitar.

At the concert organized by Sting and his wife Trudie Styler, the following artists took part:

Zucchero
James Taylor
Elton John
Lyle Lovett
Bobby McFerrin
Bonnie Raitt
Stevie Wonder
Shawn Colvin
Sting
